Life for kiddie residents of the luxe New York by Gehry, a Frank Gehry-designed residential building at 8 Spruce Street, just got a lot more fun. The building recently announced that apple seeds, a premier, NYC-based children’s play space, will redesign the building’s playroom. In addition to conceiving a space that will allow for interactive and constructive play, apple seeds will also establish monthly live musical performances for young audiences, led by their award-winning music program, “songs for seeds.” The building, designed by Frank Gehry, contains a 899-units and, according to its website, is the tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere at 76 stories. It is owned by Forest City Ratner Companies.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with such a forward-thinking group of true innovators in the children’s industry to enhance New York by Gehry’s playroom,” said Forest City Ratner Companies Vice President Scott Walsh. “The building is a vertical city, and the families and children who live here are thrilled to have this new, exciting learning and playing environment. The next Frank Gehry could be a toddler building with LEGOs in our apple seeds playroom right now!”

In keeping with apple seeds’ other play spaces, the New York by Gehry playroom will include several features designed to stimulate imaginative play and enhance fine motor skill development. The space will feature several of permanent installations present at other apple seeds locations, such as the “construction city” with a LEGO table, the “neighborhood” which includes a taxi and deli, and the “park,” which encompasses a crawling section geared towards infants and a shape-shifter flower garden.
